Here are some exciting events provided by Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (Currently Crystal Bridges at the Massey). The events are varied and cross-disciplined. February 12, 2009 (Thursday)
Proof Positive: Master Prints from the Collection of Fisk University Galleries. “This exhibition featuresprints and examples of printing blocks and plates by influential African-American artists like Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett, Martin Puryear…”. The collection is from Fisk University in Nashville, TN. Fisk is the first historically Black University in America. Subjects range from Harlem street scenes to dynamic abstractions.

5:30- 6:30pm- Bentonville Library. A Conversation. Distinguished panel discusses the Proof Positive prints.
6:30- 8pm- Crystal Bridges at the Massey. Preview show and reception.

February 14- May 3

February 20 (Friday)
11am- noon -CB at the Massey
ArtBuzz: A Printmaker’s Point of View. Professor John Newman, University of Arkansas, will give a gallery talk. Ben Edwards will assist. Lively and participatory.

February 27 (Friday)
Noon- 1pm, CB at the Massey
Lunchtime movie. Romare Bearden: Visual Jazz and The Life and Art of William H. Johnson.

March 8, 2009 (Sunday)
Art Views with Richard J. Powell, Ph.D. (Art Historian, African American Studies from Duke University)
2:00pm- 3:00pm – Lecture at Old High Middle School Auditorium (406 NW 2nd Street, Bentonville)
3:30- 5:00pm- reception and booksigning at Crystal Bridges at the Massey.
Dr. Powell will examine modern and contemporary AfricanAmerican art and printmaking

March 12, 2009 (Thursday)
5:30- 7pm- Bentonville Public Library.
Bob Workman, Executive Director of Crystal Bridges, will present a fast-paced look at the architecture and construction plans that detail the building of Crystal Brdges Museum of American Art. All the challenges and stories surrounding this great structure.

March 13 (Friday) MUSIC
11am- noon, CB at the Massey
ArtBuzz: Piano Music of African- American Composers. Presented by Claire Detels, Univ. of Arkansas Emeritus Professor of Music (musicologist and pianist).
Contributions of African American composers and performers to the U.S. and the world.

March 19 (Thursday)
Noon- 1pm, CB at the Massey
Lunchtime Movie at the Massey: Elizabeth Catlett: Sculpting the Truth and Art:21: Time- Martin Puryear.

April 16 (Thursday)
11 am – noon, CB at the Massey
ArtBuzz: An Image is Worth Ten Thousand Words: African- American History Revealed.
Dr. Jeannie Whayne, professor of History at Univ. of Arkansas, will speak of the stories behind the images at the Proof Positive print exhibition.
